Holyfield-Valuev: The Bad, The Worse, and the Ugly!
This was boxing at its most masochist - a 46 year old giving up 7 stone in weight, over a foot in height and being banned from the New York State Athletic Commission many moons ago, (and not to mention having not fought since losing 14 months ago), in arguably the worst heavyweight title fight in history with a result that was just plain ugly. Ironically, the fight between Evander Holyfield & Interim WBA champion Nikolai Valuev was staged in Switzerland - the only country in the world in which euthanasia is legal - and by the fifth round I wanted to be put out of my misery! At the end of 12 pitiful rounds so should Valuev, the judges and anyone else unfortunate to witness this disgrace.
An analysis of the fight can be summed up quite easily - it was a stinker, a real stinker. 12 rounds of Holyfield dancing around throwing the odd combination, and Valuev fighting like Baloo the bear after a heavy session on a bong with his right foot nailed to the centre of the ring, occasionally offered a pawing jab with all the venom of a care bear on valium. As for the result, if the feds investigated the Holyfield-Lewis fight they should have an easy time bringing people to justice over this debacle, not from Holyfield putting on a performance of the ages, but by the pure fact that Valuev simply looked that bad.

Valuev Defeats Holyfield on Questionable Decision
World Boxing Association (WBA) heavyweight champion Nikolay Valuev (50-1, 34 KOs) won a fight that few people felt he deserved tonight in Switzerland, defeating Evander Holyfield (42-10-2, 27 KOs) by a controversial 12-round majority decision. Valuev, 35, looked bad, unable to pull the trigger, weak, slow and doing little other than plodding after Holyfield in most of the rounds. Up until the 8th round, as far as I can tell, Valuev came close to winning none of the rounds. That's not to say that Holyfield was much better, because he looked awful, but he was at least landing a couple of good punches per round compared to Valuev's pawing jabs.
Holyfield used a lot of lateral movement and bouncing to keep Valuev from getting his shots off. The strategy worked to perfection, that is, until the final four rounds of the fight when Holyfield tired out somewhat. Valuev still did little in those rounds, making the rounds close and difficult to judge. Most of the action was painful to watch, because both fighters threw so few punches in the rounds. However, Holyfield was the clear winner of the fight, as far as I'm concerned. Valuev was later booed fiercely by the Swiss crowd. Hopefully, Holyfield retires now.

Continuing on an odyssey that will end only when he reigns supreme once more as undisputed king of the heavyweights, Evander Holyfield will attempt to snatch the WBA title from the giant’s den Saturday night when he takes on Nicolay Valuev in Switzerland. The gargantuan Russian, who sports a professional record 49-1-1NC, will enter the ring an overwhelming betting favourite while American Holyfield will once again enter the ring installed as a target of protest and ridicule for a large section of the sports press and various respected voices in the boxing community. At 46 years of age, and having failed in his last three attempts to acquire one of the various world titles, Holyfield has attracted a legion of critics.
Critics who reckon he should have given up trying a long time ago and should now accept that the whole project has been proven impossible. Critics who say he has no business believing he can become top dog again. Critics who say Evander Holyfield, a credit to the sport if there ever was one, is now not only tarnishing his own legacy but is damaging the image of boxing. Holyfield for his part is polite enough to listen, polite enough to answer, respectfully disagree and get on with the job at hand.

WBA heavyweight champion Nikolai Valuev will return to the ring on December 20 when he faces living legend Evander Holyfield in Zurich. The Russian Giant, the biggest and tallest champion in the history of boxing, is confident of success against the man who at the age of 46 will try to become the oldest heavyweight titlist of all time. “Holyfield was a great champion,” Valuev stated. “He is very experienced but I have no doubts that I will beat him. I take this fight very seriously..”
Valuev is looking forward to returning to Switzerland after clinching a third-round TKO victory over Jameel McCline in Basle in January 2007. “I only have the best of memories of Switzerland and I am happy to fight there again,” he added. The clash will take place in Zurich´s famous Hallenstadion where Muhammad Ali stopped German heavyweight Jurgen Blin in the seventh round of their meeting in 1971.
Wilfried Sauerland is thrilled to present what will be yet another historic fight. “Evander Holyfield is a boxing legend,” he stated. “It is great that we managed to bring him over to Europe.” And Sauerland Event managing director Chris Meyer added: “We are proud to stage this fight in December. Evander Holyfield will undergo a medical check-up and we will now submit the contracts and application to the WBA requesting approval for the world title fight.”
Four-time heavyweight champion Holyfield boasts a record of 42-9 with 27 KOs, while Valuev is 49-1 (34 KOs).

Wladimir Klitchko - Hasim Rahman, watch full video!
After a first round in which Dr, Steel Hammer gave a perfect demonstration of how to throw and land the four primary punches, (jab, hook, straight and uppercut), he proceeded to dismantle a hapless Hasim Rahman over the next several rounds. Indeed, after the third round, it became “when” and not “if” as Wladimir set Rahman up for the big right that everyone in the Hall knew would be on the way sooner or later
Finally, after decking an exhausted Rock with a triple left hook (which Jim Lampley inexplicitly called a combination), Referee Tony Weeks warned Rahman’s corner that he would not allow much more sustained punishment. But that’s just what Rahman received in the next round until Weeks halted matter in the seventh round in what was a complete shutout win for the Ukraine who retains his IBF, WBO, AND IBO title belts. He now moves to 52 (KO 46)-3 (KO 3) and sports a gaudy 83.6KO percentage..
Once again, Klitschko used his jackhammer-like jabs to control the action and dominate throughout. I had it a shutout but heck, so did everyone else.
The real question in this one is whether Wladimir was that good or whether Rahman was that bad, and I have my doubts. Put another way, David Haye is no Hasim Rahman and I doubt he would let Klitschko dictate the action the way he did at the SAP-Arena in Mannheim tonight. First, however, Klitchko needs to dispose of undefeated Russian, Alexander Povetkin. Then, we may finally get to see the fight that perhaps can affirm Wladimir Klitschko’s true greatness-- or perhaps not!

NEWS:
WWE 'Armageddon' live will air December 14th at 8e/5p PM on Pay-Per-View.
Chris Jericho moved heaven and earth to get tio the World Heavyweight Championship. At the Survivor Series, John Cena snatched it away.
Described by the WWE as "conniving", Jericho will "likely stop at nothing" to feel the gold once more in his hands. There’s little doubt that the man has already begun plotting his resurgence at Armageddon.
For Cena, watching from the sidelines must have made three months waiting unbearable. The oddsmakers believe Cena will approach Armageddon with the fight of his life.
At Armageddon, newly-crowned WWE Champion Edge will defend his gold in a Triple Threat Match against Jeff Hardy and Triple H.
After taking the extreme road to earn his Survivor Series Triple Threat opportunity – overcoming first Undertaker and then Triple H – Jeff Hardy was allegedly "robbed" of his chance after the fictitious story circulated that he was found unconscious in the stairwell of his Boston hotel.

News:
Rahman: Klitschko will regret he chose me!
Former WBC heavyweight champion Hasim Rahman is the new opponent for unified IBF/WBO/IBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko on December 13. Both men have begun to discuss their championship bout at the SAP Arena in Mannheim, Germany. The 35-year-old Rahman, a native of Baltimore, Maryland, has already had 15 title fights in his career, including seven world championship bouts..
In 2001, Rahman became WBC champion for the first time when he knocked out reigning champion Lennox Lewis. From 2005 to 2006 he held the WBC belt. His impressive record is 45 wins, 36 KOs, 6 losses and 2 draws. Currently he is ranked no. 5 by the IBF.
"The fight is a great chance for me," said Rahman. "Klitschko will regret he chose me to replace Povetkin. Like Lennox Lewis, I will knock him out and take those belts. And then, I am going to beat his brother Vitali, too."
The 32-year-old Wladimir Klitschko is in his 15th world championship fight when he steps into the ring in Mannheim. The 1996 Olympic gold medalist, Klitschko was WBO champion from 2000 to 2003, and won the IBF and IBO belts in Mannheim in April 2006. In February 2008, he regained the WBO title at Madison Square Garden. His record is 51 wins, with 45 victories coming by KO, and only 3 losses.
"Hasim Rahman is a tough and experienced fighter," says Klitschko. "I will definitely not underestimate him. He is always talking big – I know that back from a fight when he was supposed to meet my brother Vitali. But that does not impress me. I am really looking forward to returning to the SAP Arena. There, I became world champion for the second time. The fans in the Mannheim region are just great and I am sure the atmosphere in the arena will be terrific."
Said Bernd Bönte, Managing Director of Klitschko Management: "With the engagement of Hasim Rahman we have found a top-class fighter. This fight is of much more interest worldwide and the marketing for it is much easier, too, than it would have been with Povetkin."

Goossen Tutor Promotions was informed today by Dr. Doug Frankel that Tony “The Tiger” Thompson is suffering from acute bronchitis and was given immediate orders to stay out of the gym and subsequently his plans to enter the ring next weekend (December 13) at the Morongo Casino Resort & Spa and broadcast on VERSUS to face 3-time World Champion, James “Lights Out” Toney, (70-6-3, 43 KOs) in a scheduled 12-Round NABO/IBA Heavyweight Championship Bout..
Upon receiving the news, Goossen Tutor Promotions matchmaker, Tom Brown acted quickly and replaced Thompson, with WBO Latino Heavyweight Champion and former World Title challenger, Fres “The Big O” Oquendo (29-4, 18 KOs) in the 12-round bout.
Oquendo started his career with 22 fights without a loss and in his 23rd took on the hard-punching and undefeated David Tua on April 13, 2002 in a fight Oquendo was dominating until getting caught by a Tua bomb and being stopped in the 9th round. Two wins later, he fought reigning IBF World Heavyweight Champion Chris Byrd, losing a close and controversial 12-round decision. His performance in the Bryd fight earned him another World Heavyweight Championship bout against then-champion John Ruiz in his next fight, which was the first time two Puerto Ricans had ever faced each other in a heavyweight championship bout. In a back-and-forth fight with Ruiz on April 17, 2004, held at New York’s Madison Square Garden, Oquendo was stopped in the 11th round.

Pacquiao dominated his bigger and more famous opponent from the opening bell Saturday night, giving De La Hoya a beating and closing his left eye before De La Hoya declined to come out of his corner after the eighth round.
The fight was so lopsided and De La Hoya looked so inept that it could spell the end for boxing’s richest and most marketable star.

News:
Super middleweight boxer Carl Froch is confident he can overcome Jean Pascal when the pair battle it out for the vacant WBC super middleweight on the 6th of December. Speaking to Setanta Sports News Froch described his opponent as predictable. “You know what to expect from him. He’s going to be looking to counter punch and move around..
“I’m up against an unbeaten fighter who’s also gunning to be the WBC world champion. We’re both looking to become the champ. Neither of us has lost. It’s going to make for a great, spectacular fight.
“It’s down to me to do what I do best and start catching him with some big blows.”
Froch added that he hoped to fight Joe Calzaghe if the Welshman chose not to retire.
“He’s got mileage left on the clock. If I put in a good performance against Jean Pascal and win this WBC title then there’s good reason for him to fight me. Whether or not he will? Only Joe can answer that question.”

About a year ago, a fight between boxing superstar Oscar De La Hoya and Pound for Pound King Manny "Pacman" Pacquiao was for me an absurd fantasy. Never did I imagine at one point that this fight would ever take place in this lifetime. However, with the power of media, money and the personal angle that resulted to a legal battle between rival promotional companies this fight materialized. This is like a computer generated fight turning to reality. This is "The Dream Match", a fight with this magnitude wherein both superstar fighters of this generation collide.
The question going in to this fight is how will this fight unfold? Will Pacquiao's speed and aggressiveness be the factor of this fight or will De La Hoya's physical advantages be too much for Pacquiao?
Oscar De La Hoya is probably one of most talented fighters of his generation. A fighter that generates money, brings people to the arena, and a 10-time world champion. He is a fighter that never ducked anyone from the start of his career. A fighter with movie star looks, but has a left hook that could knock everyone out. His resume' includes victories over Julio Cesar Chavez, Genaro Hernandez, Ike Quartey, Fernando Vargas, Ricardo Mayorga and the list goes on. He is the guy that gave Felix "Tito" Trinidad, "Sugar" Shane Mosley, and recently "Pretty Boy" Floyd Mayweather, Jr; tough fights that ended in controversies. He is boxing's one and only "Golden Boy".
Manny Pacquiao, on the other hand, is a fighter who started his career as strawweight (106 lbs). He is a person who came from humble beginnings, but now revered as an icon in the island nation of the Philippines. Like De La Hoya, he never ducked anyone and he has a crushing left hand that put fighters on the seat of their pants. He is a 4-time world champion in four different weight classes. The fighter that dominated Marco Antonio Barrera, knocked out Erik Morales, decisioned and dropped Juan Manuel Marquez a total of 4 times, and regarded as the Mexico’s biggest torn. He is known as the “Typhoon across the Pacific” because destroys every opponent that are put in front of him.

Amir Khan against Oisin Fagan!

News:
Amir Khan and his team must be given credit for not choosing a soft touch for the 21-year-old's December 6th comeback fight. Flattened last time out inside a minute by Colombia's Breidis Prescott, Khan returns to the ring for the first time against tough and capable Irishman Oisis Fagan, an experienced 34-year-old who has been in with some big names and who has only ever been stopped once..
It was feared by more than a few that Khan would pick a nice soft one to restore some of the confidence Prescott took away, but Fagan, a lightweight who has fought up as high as light-welterweight in the recent past, is both a strong enough and a durable enough opponent to make the fans happy. Not a huge puncher - only 13 KO's from his 22 wins (5 losses) - Fagan still hits hard enough to get respect from his opposition.
A pro since early 2003, Fagan, who was born in Dublin, Ireland but now lives in Oklahoma, racked up an initial three wins as a light-welter, all by stoppage, before losing in 4 rounds to Isaac Mendoza. Regrouping, the Irishman won two more, before losing on points to a very familiar name. Julio Cesar Chavez Junior, in his fifth pro fight, scored a 4 round UD over him in Las Vegas. Another win followed for Fagan, before he suffered his third loss, again by a UD, to one Derrick Moon. Since then, however, Fagan has gone 16-2, proving he is a decent enough fighter.
Boxing mostly in Oklahoma, the man nicknamed "Gael Force" picked up some so-so wins as he kept himself extremely active (seven fights in 2006 alone). Then, in March of 2007, he had his biggest fight to date. Meeting former IBF lightweight champion Paul Spadafora in Michigan, Fagan came close to getting a win. Losing a close split decision over 10-rounds to the come-backing former champ who never lost his title in the ring (and indeed has never lost) the Irishman put on a good show.
Winning another three fights afterwards, Fagan then suffered his most recent defeat. Again going down via a split decision, he was out-scored by the once-beaten Verquan Kimbrough in a USBA lightweight title fight in December of last year. Fagan has won two since, boxing in New York and then in Ireland. More experienced than Khan at pro level, what kind of fight can we expect in London on December 6th?
A typical pre-Prescott blow-out, the kind we had grown accustomed to in many of Khan's fights, is in no way likely. He may be getting on somewhat in years at age 34 and he may be less powerful than the former Olympic sliver medallist, but Fagan is a physically strong and determined fighter who will be coming to win. Used to fighting light-welterweights, the Irishman will not be pushed around by Khan. Indeed, Khan may be the one who gets out-muscled at times.
